Justice For Our Neighbors
Citizenship Classes

Classes are geared to assist the student to pass the civics/history portion of the naturalization exam given to immigrants seeking final citizenship.  The test focuses on the student's understanding and ability to use the English language (thus certain vocabulary issues are addressed) and the student's knowledge of American history and civics.

Although the exact questions asked are not known on a case by case basis, the overall examination format is known so a curriculum can be prepared to assist. The study manual utilizes repetitive questions and teaching aids to address the questions from several fronts.  Multiple choice, fill in the blanks, mix and match, all are used over and over so that, for example, the question of "how many stars are on the flag?", the student should remember color, what the star stands for, how many stars were on the first flag, the current flag, etc.

The course we teach consists of 23 lessons. The time it takes to complete each lesson varies with the student. Those who speak English well, can cover 2-4 lessons per week.  However, not to worry if it takes longer.
We've been blessed with patient and attentive teachers who stress on building the student's confidence.  We can use more teachers. The class size varies, we currently have 4 students that learn on a one-to-one teacher ratio.

Classes meet at Meadowbrook United Methdist Church in the Bright Corner Classroom on Wednesday evenings at 6:15 p.m.
Bistro is served from 5:30-6:30 p.m.
